What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese word that has been translated into English in many ways. Although it’s difficult to translate it literally; my current favourite is “Universal Life Force Energy”. The word appears to originally relate to the energy itself (“I work with Reiki energy”) rather than the practice (“I do Reiki therapy”). However, in the West we now use it to mean either.
Simply put, Reiki is a powerful yet gentle healing technique in which the practitioner channels natural healing energy to the client. The practitioner connects to the universal energy and, by placing their hands on or over various parts of the client’s body, they enable the client to draw on as much energy as is required.
Reiki is non-invasive and non-manipulative. The client remains fully clothed throughout and Reiki can be given with the hands completely off the body if preferred. It doesn’t require belief, or the adherence to any religious or spiritual path. It is the application of clear intention to channel universal love for the purposes of healing. It is a beautiful and simple, yet profound, gift.
How does Reiki work?
The practice of Reiki may be viewed as a way of directing loving, healing energy to a person, animal, plant or situation. This energy can be visualised as the Force that creates and drives the universe and everything in it.
When a Reiki practitioner touches someone, with the purpose of healing, this energy is drawn through the practitioner and into that person. The greater the need, the more Reiki will flow. All that is necessary for this to happen, is that the practitioner has the intention to work for the highest good of the recipient and that the recipient is willing to receive the energy.
Reiki is very relaxing and can balance the body’s energies, clearing blockages and allowing healing to take place. Reiki can quickly relieve pain and acute symptoms and can assist in the healing of a wide range of ailments.
Reiki has the potential to heal any condition. It can work on a physical, mental, emotional or spiritual level. It is wiser than we are and will go where it is most needed. Consequently, it may not always do what we expect, hope or wish. Although, in the majority of cases, clients report a feeling of deep relaxation and relief of pain and discomfort, there may not have been an “instant cure”. Know and trust that Reiki is always working for the higher good.
Reiki Teaching & Attunements
Learning how to give Reiki is an amazing gift for anyone. At our workshops you will learn about the history of Reiki and how it works, be attuned to the energy and practice how to give a treatment.
Level One will enable to treat yourself, friends and family
Level Two brings about more learning and the chance to become a professional practioner.
Level Three gives you the skills to become a Reiki Master/Teacher and teaches you the attunement process, so that you too can develop more practioners & teachers to share this beautiful gift.
The first Attunement ceremony that you will experience will start to open you up to this universal healing energy. You will be a channel for this energy which will, in addition to healing, begin to connect you to your higher consciousness and allow your intuition to flow.
Much has been written about Reiki, and there are whole books exploring its history, what it is and how it works. Many Reiki Masters attach a lot of concepts, rules and traditions to Reiki. There are also now a vast number of ‘styles’ of Reiki. While this may be attractive and useful to some people, I prefer to keep things simple. You may then relate to Reiki in your own unique way.
